| From Stu: | Quote: | Inertia is offering an introductory special on the Inertia 5.7 based 400 CI engine for a base price of $4495 with block exchange.
That includes custom premium CP pistons that laser etched in superior strength 2618 alloy with the inertia 400 logo, Forged crank, forged H beam rods with ARP bolts, premium rings 1.2/1.2/3.0 mm gas nitrided top and napier second rings for minimal friction, maximum strength and heat resistance yet excellent oil control in a lightweight rotating assembly for outstanding throttle response. the 400 can be ordered in about any compression ratio desired.
This isn't the budget stroker package that others are selling for similar prices. that are built with the cheapest forged components available. This engine is built with superior components and superior attention to detail that you don't get from the kit motors. |
More info about the kit...
| Quote: | The budget stroker is built using the Compstar kit which is the same parts about 90% of the Hemi strokers out in circulation use. Until about 6 months ago if you bought a stroker from another vendor chances are it was the compstar kit. Most are still using it but there are now some using better components, primarily pistons. The Compstar kit uses the Mahle pistons which are a 4032 alloy and I wouldn't recommend with NOS or boost although quite a few have used NOS with these pistons just like they have with the stock ones. They can break with high HP use over time becaues the silicone content in the 4032 alloy will crystallize and make the piston brittle over time. It also uses standard cast iron molly face, barrel type rings that typically cost about $50 and were the stuff 30 years ago but there is better stuff now. The 400 uses a $200 gas nitrided top ring and napier second that are manufactured by NPW. The pins aren't as nice and the Compstar rods are a non offset LS-1 style rod that puts the rod about 0.060" off center on the piston. Which works but isn't ideal. Not to say the Compstar parts don't work, they do and there are some strong engines running with those parts. But they are what they are and thats lower cost components and thats why I can build a $3700 engine from those components. I've Used the Compstar crank in Probably 30 engines, on most of those I had to take the crank in and get it reground on the mains to get the bearing clearances where I consider they should be. From my experience mains vary allot on these cranks and there is a decent amount of runnout on straightness. But if the machining on these cranks is right from the start or corrected it's a real good crank and will take allot of power (lou was running one with his insane NOS use) you just have to check it real thoroughly and probably spend some money on it to get it right. It also has some nice features like gun drilled mains, knife edged, light ears. So you take the bad with the good, plenty of good though. Typically it's a PITA to balance unless you're running real light parts.
I hope that explains the differences though. |

| Yeah more bang for your buck but he doesnt recommend using juice on it with those allot pistons. Forged pistons would be better but it will also up the price of the stroker. |

Even better! I might have to go stroker instead of just doing a head and cam swap when my wallet lets me. |

| Hard to say.. Mid 400 range to the wheels? Could be more or less, depending on what heads are used along with other supporting mods. Motors like these, with big cams, are going to want to breath.. |
