Geez Dave. Sorry you're going thru so much trouble with this. Sad

Thanks, but it's OK. Following this, Diallo and I may end up being the most knowledgable non-electricians in the world on LED halo installs. waves

OK, so what the hell!?

Why SHOULDN'T this saga get weirder?

So today Diallo lit up all 6 Flashtech rings. Guess what...they ARE amber. Even the one that was red:

Maybe the power is now being even distributed or something. It was too much going to just 1 ring from the regulator eh

I hear the voltage controls the color.

^^^Both are true. But in theory, one or 8 rings hooked up, the regulator should be providing the same power to the rings.

LATEST: Hooked up the regulator and all the rings to my battery tonight...color-wise, they look GREAT! Diallo took some pics...I'll get them posted.

BUT...run the halos off my battery @ 12.5 volts and lower, they're fine. Start the car and the battery runs @ 14v, the lights all start blinking. Talked to plcman, that shouldn't happen. Could just be a bad regulator. He's going to check it out for me.

Staaaaay tuned. Won't have halos in for Sunday, though. That's for sure.

Here's the pics Dave is talking about. We took these last night at my house just checking for color against his car and ring/light stability under varying voltages. Like he said, at rest (12.3volts) the rings are fine, but while the car is running and the voltage jumps to around 14volts...............not so good.

BTW: to set 'em against the Charger we just taped a couple to the outside of the headlight housing.

That first pic is a hint at the grille lighting too.

Thanks for posting them, D!

Man, I need 20" rims. Looks like my wheels were washed in hot water and shrunk in those wheel wells.

It's January 27th...do you know where your halos are?

That is just unreal. When are you expecting to get them back?

plcman is shipping back my halo rings I sent him a few months ago, as the guinea pig rings to figure out what was going on with the Flashtech rings. (Mine was the first set of FT rings he had on hand, to diagnose the issue). I'm going to get one of his new dual regulators with the cooling fan, when it's finished. It's not finished yet. He's telling me he's going to try and finish it in time to get one to me, to install the whole thing in time for WoW. We'll see.

July would be a year since I ordered the AAC rings.

BTW, if anyone wants to buy a set of AAC amber halos, I'll be selling them.

since you are having probs with the FT rings, I have to ask why you just didn't stick with the AAC rings the whole time? There are many members here including me that have the AAC rings with no problems and without having to run a voltage regulator or any of that bs.... *knocks on wood*.....

2 reasons.

1) I had some significant customer service issues with them post purchase that made me not want to rely on them in the future.

2) you'll have issues eventually. The issues you do see, with 3 leds out (like Brian's) are because the rings are overheating and popping the resistors off the back. 12 v rings getting +14 v unregulated through them will do that. Plcman taught me...he knows his stuff. 30 years in electronics.

I'm waiting for my overengineered super regulator.

gotcha...well i guess you can say I told you so later when mine finally break, but until then i'll enjoy my halos...

sucks to hear about the customer service....I hung out with Andy in Hot springs and enjoyed talkin with him & I can only speak for myself but he's worked with me and i've had nothing but good experiences with him....

Yeah, Andy wasn't the issue.

Won't be saying I told you so.

The reason they go in banks of three, btw, is that's how the resistors are set up: 3 leds to 1 resistor.
