PostSubject: Modifying the stock non nav bezel   24th May 2010, 10:47 am

So i'm in the process of modifying my stock non nav bezel to fit a double din head unit and and a 1/2 din equalizer.

I used the bezel ring from the Metra kit for the navigation bezel and worked in to the stock bezel. I also used the 'ears' from my single din metra kit from my old radio. i had to remake the bottom line just over the climate controls since that part was cut in a previous test fitting. I also took out the hazard switch/wiper/esp switch deal. That will be going somewhere by the ignition cylinder, trying to use the 300 switch on that, since it lacks the wiper option on there.

Used abs cement to glue fiberglass to bezel

With the equalizer ring made

Test fitting with the eq in there. Still have to work on smoothing out the edges so it sits level. Also want to to cut the sides a bit to make the eq sit flush on the sides.

test fitting with the controls

I dont have pictures of the filler on it, i spent a few hours sanding the filler down, area drom the EQ to the climate control is smooth...the area by the big knobs on the sides is filled in and smoothed out as are the sides and the whole bezel. Ill either glass another layer on this or fill it in and continue to make the best transitional curves. I test fitted the whole deal in the car and it fits good, just have to move the radio slightly to the left, on the custom brackets i made for it then i'll be good to go.
Once i prime it we'll see how bad the imperfections are and how much more filling in i have left. Paint for this will be some kind of black. Deep glossy black preferred but we will see about that.

Props to you, fiberglass and sanding are a pain in the ass. Time consuming and tiresome. Did some speaker pods once and never again. Looking good.
