I know some of you store your car but just wondering how many members drive there car in the winter? Those that do, do you use snow tires? When do you put them on? Do you use sandbags or anything to weigh down the trunk? This will be my first winter driving this car and its my first rwd. My fear is sliding or spinning out and hitting another car.

I used to drive mine year round, snow tires WILL help alot, but either way these cars suck in the snow and they get loose REAL easy

they do get loose really easy, but honestly, they arent that bad as long as you arent heavy on the gas pedal. Snow tires will always make it easier, but even with snow tires, you can still get loose and spin with snow tires. The thing you REALLY need to remember is go very easy on the gas pedal. When it comes to braking, always remember to begin stopping earlier than usual. At 4200 lbs, it takes a lot to stop these cars and you don't really want to be riding your ABS system all winter long. Try to judge if a light is going to change before you get there, anticipate what the other drivers might be doing and things like that... stop early and easy on the accelerator. When it comes to spinning and sliding, there are going to be moments where you just can't avoid it, like making right and left turns while its snowing, you need to always remember to turn INTO the spin. If the back end is sliding to the right, turn your wheel to the right. Lastly, remember what we told you at woodfield, AUTO-STICK will be your best friend, if you find it difficult to find traction, use auto stick to shift up into second gear, and you'll find you have a lot more torque which allows for better traction. Don't over think it, these cars today, with their modern ABS and ESP's and traction controls, arent that bad to drive in the snow.

already put my blizzak snow tires on my Dakota R/T. i also put my summer 20in wheels and tires in the bed for traction. it changes the truck from un-driveable to manageable. its still a nice drift session all the way to work when its snowy. it just moves, turns, and stops well enough.

when you shift up to second to get traction its actually LESS torque that allows for better traction. more torque = more spin.

I stand corrected then... either way, second gear is better for traction....

I used to drive mine during the winter and yes I had snow tires. I drove the first winter I owned it with the regular goodyears and I couldnt get traction for shit in the snow. After I got snow tires I never got stuck.

I have drove mine every winter since I bought it. I have all season tires, have never had snow tires. Have never put extra weight in the back, I do try to keep it with no less then 1/2 a tank of gas during the winter. Only issues I have had is trying to go from a dead stop when the streets have not been plowed. The car struggles to get traction but once it finds it is fine. Its worse when there is any sort of hill. I have had issues stopping as well but I just adjust my driving style in the winter. Give myself more room to stop and more room in between the car in front of me so I can try to start going as soon as I see the light change so by time it gets to me I am already moving. I am glad this year I can pretty much work from home every day once it starts snowing.

One thing I noticed is because of the weight of cars for sure helps. Big suv's around me would be sliding and I just stayed slow and steady and never had an issue.

Everyone be safe this winter.

I drive mine year round with the goodyear RSA's on it and it handles better than any other rear wheel drive car I have owned or driven in the winter and actually better than some of the front wheel drives. You just have to know how to handle the slides. If you are not comfortable with the sliding yet, take it to a parking lot on the first snow and make some turns and learn how she handles.

i also drive my Daytona year round. just like what other people have said , autostick is good to use at dead stops when you have a good amount of snow on the ground to get moving and even downshifting when crusing to a stop and not wanting to slide. putting some extra weight in the trunk won't hurt cause that is where your power is going to your tires. i honestly feel like i have more control with my rear wheel drive Daytona then a front wheel drive vehicle. not sure why and in 3 years my Charger made it through our crazy winters. good luck and be safe all that are driving in the snow this winter.
